Yoga Really is for Everyone

September 19, 2018

It's been a long day, and I'm tired. I could have put this blog off one more day, and then one more day, and another until this message never gets sent and the intention is forgotten. Regardless of my own personal needs, this message cannot wait. I've heard the undercurrent of excuses to avoid yoga the whole time I've been associated with yoga. The list of complaints about how hard yoga is, how inflexible a body may be, or age, time constraints, or basically you name it. I get it now. I totally understand where this perception originates. I read an article a few days ago, and it was admonishing social media for hurting yoga. I was like "Heck Yea Sister!" at the top of my lungs, because her words checked off all of the complaints I have about social yoga.....the perfect poses, perfect bodies, perfect backdrops.....perfection encapsulated. I was ready to re-post this article until I saw HER profile picture. Guess what? It was perfect. I slumped down and shook my head. How do I get the message out there that yoga is accessible to everyone regardless of age, body type, level of flexibility, lack of Facebook likes (just kidding....I haven't encountered that one....yet)? It's a daunting task, because at the end of the day it comes down to how we feel about ourselves. If I could sell you a vitamin U-Rock that basically makes you fall in love with every aspect of your being, I would never have to wonder about money. That vitamin doesn't and will not exist.....but yoga does. Yoga is a magic place beyond yoga poses, that allows you to find those beautiful spaces within your body and mind. It's that magic place that says....I may not be at my ideal weight now (or ever), but I'm going to be ok with my weight at this very moment. Yoga gives you the space in the mind for absence of thought. A place to exist without anxiety or anger. It is a breeding ground for like minded folks to connect and support one another. It's a place to connect with the fabric of the universe. I told someone recently that a loving God doesn't care about your attributes. A loving God just loves. That's the key yoga possesses....the key to unlock that unconditional love. That love for self, others, and beyond. Come to yoga exactly as you are and stay awhile. Oh, and y'all have seen my videos and photos......I'm coming to you exactly how I am. That's how this works. Love, light, and Namaste
